Accessibility
Last reviewed: 1 November 2026. Covers this website, the web panchang at panchang.umeshpai.com and the Auspicious Today app for iPhone and Android.
We want the app and the website to be usable by everyone, including older people and people who use a screen reader, large text or other assistive technology.
Our target and where we are
Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA for the website, and Apple's and Android's accessibility guidance for the app. Today both are partially conformant. This is based on our own reviews in November 2026 and the app's automated accessibility tests. We have not yet finished a full check with VoiceOver, TalkBack or NVDA.
What works
- Both websites follow your browser's text size and dark mode, have a skip link and one main heading per page, and reflow on a narrow phone without sideways scrolling. The web panchang keeps keyboard focus in place when the page updates, including the once-a-minute "Right now" refresh. Every page is scanned automatically with axe on each change.
- Controls are at least 48 pixels high and spaced apart. Body text is 16 pixels; text meets 4.5:1 contrast and field borders 3:1, in light and dark mode, and stronger borders are used when you ask for more contrast.
- Good, avoid and regular times always carry a word, not colour alone. Today's date in the calendar is underlined as well as coloured. Times are read out as words ("6:25 AM to 11:51 AM"), and the day bar and timeline have a text description.
- The app is checked automatically on every screen, in light and dark mode, for touch size, labels, contrast and layout at up to 3 times text size on a narrow phone. It follows the phone's text size and dark mode and has its own text-size choice.
- Sanskrit names are marked as Sanskrit so screen readers pronounce them correctly.
Known problems
- App, festival list: the date badge stops growing at 2 times text size. The festival names and details follow the full size.
- App, Android: Android's high-contrast text setting is not used yet (iPhone's Increase Contrast is). Dark mode may help.
- App, tab bar: the bottom tab bar has no Large Content Viewer, a limitation of the toolkit we use. Its labels do follow your text size.
- Websites and app: not yet checked by hand with VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, Voice Control, Switch Access or keyboard alone. If something doesn't work for you, please tell us.
We plan to fix the app problems above before the app is released, apart from the tab bar.
Getting help
If you can't read or do something, write to support@auspicioustoday.com. Tell us what you were trying to do and on which phone or browser. How it is built
This website uses only HTML and CSS. The web panchang uses HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA, with no framework. The app is built with Flutter and uses its support for VoiceOver and TalkBack. We review this statement at each major release and at least once a year.
